The essay deals with the definition of urban quality, proposing a methodology to define it. The state of the art is the starting point, then the focus is on quality for pedestrians and on the role of the intermediate urban spaces. In the core of the essay, the analysis of the requirement/performance meeting and the definition of the basic requirement classes, proper of urban design and pedestrian mobility, are faced with a focus on a most intangible aspect of urban quality: Attractiveness. The essay closes with some suggestions for the design of the intermediate spaces for pedestrians and outlining a possible methodology to asssess urban quality
